cultural issues Essay - 1217 Words
Plays from African American, Latino-American, Asian American and European American cultures often deal with important and relevant issues pertinent to that culture but they also connect to all cultures in a universal way. Throughout history in America people of all races have been discriminated against. Immigrants have dealt with experiencing new ways of life and struggled with the tough decision of holding on to their culture or adapting to change. A Raisin in the Sun is a play about an African American family living in Chicago in the sixties. The Youngerââ¬â¢s are a family made up of a mother, her daughter and her son with his wife and son. The home they are renting is a small two bedroom apartment, the bathroom is across the hall and theyâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Rebellion will not be tolerated. She tells the slaves of their future and how they will work in scorching heat. She gives them hope by telling them that it will take civil right leaders to give them any hope of ever being treated equally to their fellow man. The play ends with an example of a stereotype when Ms. Pat displays ââ¬Å"all right, so your gonna have to suffer for a few hundred years, but from your pain will come a culture so complex. And with this item here... (she removes a basketball from the overhead compartment)...youll become millionaires!â⬠She reveals basketball to point out the stereotype that all black play basketball. African Americans werenââ¬â¢t the only race to experience racism and cultural difficulties. Mexican Americans and Asians also experienced their own struggles. Most of those who migrated to America wanted to hold on to their cultural values and heritage. When their children who were born in the United States grew up, they grew up in an American community. They were exposed to American traditions and ways of life. Their parents felt that their children had lost touch with their roots. The parents tried to keep their cultural alive by keeping traditional homes, but their children were attracted to the society they lived in. The play Zoot Suit Riots is a good example of the struggles with racism and loss of culture Mexican Americans had to deal with. Bill Gates Essay, Research Paper He is the richest adult male in the universe. His former friends, who are now his enemies, hatred to even hear The Digital World of Bill Gates his name. His company wants to be with you in your office, your auto, and even your kitchen. His name is Bill Gates. There is a batch more to Bill Gates than being the richest adult male in the universe. He is one of the people responsible for puting off the computing machine revolution, and by making that, he every bit changed the manner world lives everlastingly. Who is Bill Gates? Most people do non even know what it is that he does. This paper will speak about Bill Gates # 8217 ; beginnings in computing machines, his pioneering in the computing machine industry, the creative activity of Microsoft, and his extraordinary wealth.. William Henry Gates, III was born October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. He was the in-between kid of three Borns to William and Mary Gates. William was a attorney and Mary was a socialite parttime instructor. Trey, as he was called because of the III, was sent to a private school by his parents. At age 13, Bill had wholly taught himself programming after taking a computing machine survey category at Lakeside School ( an expensive private school in Seattle ) . Within a twelvemonth, he and a adult male by the name of Paul Allan formed the Lakeside Programmer # 8217 ; s Group. The group was commissioned by the town to make a traffic-monitoring plan. They constructed an application called Traf-o-Data that calculated the figure of autos going down a route and would so give the best timing for a brake light. In 1970, Bill # 8217 ; s parents stated that he was going excessively addicted to computing machines and made him give up his compulsion. With the same enthusiasm he had placed into computing machines, he dove into his high school categories, accomplishing better than he of all time had before. Even though he tried to be # 8220 ; normal # 8221 ; in high school, he was still really much considered an castaway to those who did non cognize him. They thought of him as narcissistic and nerdy. However, those who did cognize him thought of him as energetic and a hazard taker. After hiting a perfect 800 on the mathematics half of the SAT, he graduated from Lakeside School and enrolled at Harvard University as a pre-law major. As a pupil here, Gates was phenomenal. He received an A in an economics category without even go toing and he crammed the dark before the concluding test. In June 1975, Bill Gates dropped out of Harvard to prosecute a calling in computing machines full clip. His best friend throughout life has been Paul Allan. Subsequently, it would be these two work forces who created the multi-billion dollar company, Microsoft. While still at Harvard Bill had been working on a new plan he called # 8220 ; BASIC # 8221 ; ( Beginner # 8217 ; s All-Purpose Symbolic Instruction Code ) , a new scheduling linguistic communication. He subsequently purchased a merchandise and rights to a radical new disc operating system called 86-QDOS from Seattle Computer Products and changed the name to MS-DOS. He so resold the merchandise for net income. Keeping the rights, he got to have royalties in add-on to the sale monetary value of MS-DOS. Even today, net incomes are still coming in from the sale of the original 86-QDOS. Subsequently in the life of Microsoft, Bill Gates developed a new Graphical User Interface for a disc operating system. He called it Windows. The first two versions earned him a little sum of money, but the major kitty came from the ulterior versions, such as Windows 3.1, Windows 95, and now Windows 98. This new graphical manner was frequently imitated but none so far have had the remaining power Windows has. Not merely has Bill Gates changed the computing machine market for persons, but with Windows NT ( a version of Windows geared for networking in the concern environment ) , he has focused in on the concern universe every bit good. As of April 12, 1999, Bill Gates is deserving one hundred five billion dollars. This underestimates Bill Gates # 8217 ; wealth because it merely counts his retentions of Microsoft stock as of 1995 ( it is assumed if he has sold stock since so he has invested it in assets that perform about every bit good as Microsoft ) . The autos, houses, choppers, aircraft bearers, islands, and little European states that he bought before 1995 are non included. Bill Gates is the richest adult male in the universe, and looking at his house, it shows. There was about five 100 thousand pess of timber used for his house, all of it being five hundred year-old Douglas Fir, sanded to a satin coating. The five estates have been planted with native trees including Douglas Fir, alder and maple, all kept in their natural visual aspect. Since the house is in an temblor part, the full foundation is concrete. All the roofing in his house is unstained steel. The house is located in Medina, Washington and is at an estimated cost of $ 100 million dollars, which is less than one per centum of his quarterly net incomes. Features of the house include a twenty-seat theatre with a popcorn machine, a one 1000 square pes dining room, and a two thousand three hundred square foot response hall with a 22 pes picture show, made out of 24 separate forty-inch projection telecastings. There is besides a nine hundred square foot multi-purpose room, which was originally intended to be an art gallery. He has three separate garages, one of which holds 30 autos. It is a immense six thousand three hundred square pess. His exercising installation includes a sweat room, steam room, and a trampoline room with a twenty-foot ceiling. Gates discoveries resiling good for concentration, as others find swaying in a chair the same manner. There is besides a three thousand nine hundred square pes indoor pool that # 8217 ; s connected to an out-of-door pool via a glass ceiling that you can swim under to make either side. The pool besides has its ain underwater music system. Attached to his piece of land that touches Lake Washin gton is a boathouse and besides a semisynthetic beach with imported driftwood. A billionaire # 8217 ; s sign of the zodiac would non be complete without a library. Gates hired a New York rare books store to stock up his two thousand one hundred square pes library. It is domed, has a hearth and two secret swiveling bookshelves, buttocks is concealed some of his secret hoarded wealths. One of which, being the sixteenth-century notebook of Leonardo district attorney Vinci he purchased for 30 million dollars. One of his favourite books is The Great Gatsby, and around the base of the library he has inscribed the last line from the novel, # 8220 ; He had come a long manner to this bluish lawn and his dream must hold seemed so near he could barely neglect to hold on it # 8221 ; , possibly because he found it suiting to his ain life. The bosom of the house is the engineering. There are stat mis of communicating overseas telegrams, which are for computing machine waiters. Upon come ining the house, occupants and invitees wear an electronic pin programmed with things such as favourite music, art, and telecasting shows. Located in assorted suites are wall shows that scan the pin and get down playing the individual # 8217 ; s favourite music, telecasting show, or expose their favourite art on picture screens in the room. The pin besides controls the clime of the room and merely allows the phone nearest the individual to ring. Bill Gates is non any ordinary individual. He is a dreamer that wants to win. He will non set up with anything other than flawlessness. At the start of the computing machine revolution, he was told that his vision of a computing machine for the place was merely capricious. Bill Gates worked difficult to make the top, and turn out everyone incorrect. Moritz, Charles. William Gates Current Biography. H.W. Wilson Company: New York, NY, 1991. Pp. 237-241. Plastic Waste free essay sample
The present study investigates the potential use of waste plastic as a modifier for asphalt concrete and cement concrete pavement. Plastic waste, consisting of carry bags, cups etc can be used as a coating over aggregate and this coated stone can be used for road construction. Different ratios of plastic such as Polypropylene (PP), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), and High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) by weight of asphalt were blended with 80/100 paving grade asphalt. Unmodified and modified asphalt binders were subjected to rheological test. The performance tests including, Marshall Stability, loss of stability tests were conducted using plastic coated aggregates and polymer modified bitumen on HMA mixtures. Work has been done by using plastic coated aggregates in cement concrete pavements. The results showed better values for asphalt concrete. This is an eco-friendly process. Asphalt is used primarily construction of roads and as a major component in roofing materials due to its remarkable binding and waterproofing properties. The behavior of asphalt cement in service is governed by their initial engineering properties as well as by the mechanical and environmental conditions to which they are subjected. The steady increase in high traffic intensity in terms of commercial vehicles, the increase in over loading of trucks and the significant variation in daily and seasonal temperature demand improved road characteristics. Under these situations, it is essential to modify the asphalt cement using modifiers to improve its engineering properties. On the other hand, the environmental problem such as disposal of waste plastic is major concern. To overcome the problems the modifiers (waste plastic) are used. Among various types of modifiers, polymers are probably the most promising. Despite the large number of polymeric products, relatively few are suitable for modification of asphalt cement and are compatible with asphalt cement. Polymers used for asphalt modification can be grouped into three main categories: thermoplastic elastomers, plastomers, and reactive polymers. Thermoplastic elastomers are obviously able to confer good elastic properties on the modified binder; while plastomers and reactive polymers are added to improve rigidity and reduce deformations under load [1]. The following are some of the examples of polymers. ? SBS (radial and linear) ââ¬â good fatigue resistance, high creep rate, but oxidation susceptibility. There was a substantial increase in Marshall Stability value of the BC mix, in the order of two to three times higher value in comparison with the untreated or ordinary bitumen. Polyethylene which belongs to plastomer gives rigidity to the binder and reduces the deformation under load. The affect of this is more profound when the concentration of polyethylene was kept below 1% by weight of the base bitumen. However the present study investigates about the use of waste plastic as coating over aggregates and as a modifier in bitumen.

Synonyms for Answer
Synonyms for Answer Synonyms for Answer Synonyms for Answer By Mark Nichol Answer is a word of noble pedigree- it dates back nearly a thousand years in its original sense of ââ¬Å"swear againstâ⬠(from Old English andswaru). However, itââ¬â¢s bland and neutral, and a variety of synonyms with more precise connotations exist. Reply often has a sense of a thorough reaction to a communication, though it can simply refer to an answer in general. Response, on the other hand, has a sense of ââ¬Å"a prompt or spontaneous reply,â⬠though it can also be applied to more extensive communication (sometimes clarified with a modifier in such phrases as ââ¬Å"measured responseâ⬠). Replication, a formal extension of reply, is usually employed only in legal contexts and is better known as a synonym for duplication. Rejoinder and retort connote some tension in the communication: Rejoinder implies that the original statement was a criticism or an objection, while retort suggests that the reply is (or is perceived as) an attack; to point out the animosity involved, a retort is often described as ââ¬Å"cuttingâ⬠or ââ¬Å"short.â⬠Return can be used as a synonym for retort. The colloquial term comeback, meanwhile, describes a quick response that attacks the person making the original statement and is meant to diminish or insult him or her. A take, on the other hand, is a subjective but emotionally neutral response to something- generally, a statement of analysis or opinion on an event or an issue. Though colloquial, take is commonly used in writing, followed by the preposition on (as in ââ¬Å"Whatââ¬â¢s your take on the matter?â⬠or ââ¬Å"Smith offered his take on the incident.â⬠). A rebuttal is not a response per se, but it is an act of disproving by offering an argument or evidence against a statement. Similarly, a refutation is a claim that something said or written is false (the distinction between rebuttal and refutation is that the latter is not necessarily supported by evidence or an effective argument.) An informal abbreviation expressing a request for an answer is RSVP, from the French phrase ââ¬Å"Rà ©pondez sil vous plait.â⬠Though plait means ââ¬Å"please,â⬠many who use the phrase are unaware of the literal translation and redundantly ask respondents to ââ¬Å"Please RSVPâ⬠; pointing out this duplication seems to be a lost cause and will probably result in a rejoinder or a retort. What Makes a Food Organic Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
What Makes a Food Organic - Essay Example Such chemicals make the foods lose their natural quality, because they have been raised up in an unnatural environment. We discussed how farmers can make their lands organic by enhancing soil fertility; and, how people can grow foods at a smaller scale at their homes, without the use of chemicals. In this paper, we shall discuss these issues in detail, giving great importance to how a food is made organic, both on small scale at homes and on large scale at farms. Literature has been sought, and may references of scholarly research have been quoted to support the argument that, although it is not scientifically proven how an organic food is more healthful than non-organic food, but it is believed that since organic foods are grown in the most naturally possible way, thus, they are better for health than non-organic foods, whether grown at small scale or large. ... Organic methods employed by farmers guarantee that such food is produced, and on such a scale, that satisfies global requirement without the need to increase or expand the agricultural land base, which is a very big advantage in the current situation of growing population and less land available to adjust it. However, according to Brian Halweil (2006), a Senior Researcher at World Watch Institute, Washington D.C., it is contradictory whether organic food supply can feed the world effectively, since organic farmers have to do a lot of hard work in land conversion; and, the crop yield is often less because the land takes many years to adjust to the conversion process. Whether organic food is tastier than non-organic conventional food is still a debate, but some studies, that have compared the organoleptic quality of both types of foods, have shown that organic food is better in taste and healthfulness (Sample, 2007). Two factors are responsible for this: higher levels of antioxidants a nd lower levels of average crop yields. When the aim is high crop yield, farmers tend to ignore the organoleptic quality of the crops. Availability of nitrogen to foods is also influential upon the quality and taste. Conventional farming involves lower levels of such antioxidants, thus, the integrity of cells is affected. Higher levels of nitrates tend to spoil the food. Since organic foods have lower levels of nitrates, and relatively higher levels of antioxidants, they have longer life when they come to market shelves. There have been many studies comparing organic and conventional apples for taste and quality; and, researchers have found that organic apples come out better, because they store

The factors are mainly user involvement, proper planning, clear statement of requirements, clear objectives and vision, smaller project milestones, and realistic expectations among others. Similarly there are some factors which force projects to fail. For example, errors pertaining to estimation and planning, implementation factor, and also human factor may lead to project failure. Hence, to let the team members know about the reasons behind the success and failure of a project, it is important to define success and failure criteria. In addition, it also helps to monitor a project. Benefits of Managing Projects There are several techniques by which a project can be managed (Lasa Information Systems Team, 2003). The benefits of some of the systems are presented below: - Project Management Technique Benefits PERT 1. This method is useful in controlling the cost (Mittal, 2006). 2.
